What do you like most about practicing medicine?

As healthcare providers, the primary concern is the patient’s well-being. In daily clinical practice, I do the best I can for the individual person by listening to their individual concern, digesting the issue at hand, providing the best advice, and applying the best management that is most likely to result in the best outcome. In academic practice at LHSC, I interact with trainees to impart knowledge to them so they can provide the highest quality of care to many more patients. In medical research, I generate new knowledge and innovation so that many more patients can benefit from better health.

Can you share any tips or key considerations with new healthcare professionals on providing exceptional patient care?

Listen to the patients, understand their spoken and unspoken concerns, and be innovative in finding solutions for both the individual patient and the population of patients.
