Soo-Min Kim
Soo-Min Kim is currently the Manager of MAC (Moves, Adds, Changes), Planning & Integration at the University of Health Network in Toronto. In this role, she oversees a team of project management staff to work on renovation, furniture, and relocation projects across the hospital sites.
Her team leads over 100 concurrent projects, with a total portfolio value of $20M+.
Previously, she was a part of Dr. Thiruganasambandamoorthy’s team, contributing to the Syncope Research Program at the Ottawa Hospital Research Institute (OHRI). She managed multiple studies including the Validation of the Syncope Risk Score and the Remote Cardiac Monitoring of Higher-Risk Emergency Department Syncope Patients after Discharge. During her time at OHRI, she applied to be a CHAT Trainee.
When asked about her experience as a CHAT member she noted, “This network helped me in my career in many different ways. First, it nurtured my growth mindset and connected me with other individuals leading multi-site clinical research studies. We were able to discuss lessons learned and identify opportunities to collaborate. The CANet annual conferences and the trainee days helped enhance existing skills, in addition to adding new skills to my toolbox”. Memorable experiences include presenting her abstract “Costs of Emergency Syncope Care” at the Society for Academic Emergency Medicine Annual Conference in Florida (supported through the CHAT Travel Award), presenting Clinical Research 101 to patient partners at the CANet annual conference, and participating on the CHAT Executive Leadership Committee. She is also grateful for Dr. Thiruganasambandamoorthy’s mentorship and continues to cheer on his team from the sidelines.
Despite transitioning her career to a different facet of health care, she notes that many of her skills have been transferable such as project management, communication, and team building.
Soo-Min believes that her experience in different health settings (e.g. academic hospitals, community hospitals, community services, and long-term care) has strengthened her understanding of the system and its intricacies.
She holds a Master’s in Health Administration in addition to the Project Management Professional (PMP) and Certified Health Executive (CHE) designations.
In her spare time, she loves staying active, reading, baking and listening to music.
